WELCOME TO OUR NEW PRINCIPAL, MRS. DE ANGELO!
Elissa De Angelo is no stranger to La Caņada Elementary (LCE) students and
staff. Ms. De Angelo stepped in as interim principal for LCE when Ivette Ellis moved out of state in February, 2008. Elissa
began her teaching career as a first grade teacher with Los Angeles Unified in 1987. After moving to the Rosemead School
District, she invested close to 20 years of service with the district. During her tenure at Rosemead, she rose from elementary
teacher to assistant principal to elementary school principal. Though Ms. De Angelo retired from Rosemead in 2007, she
has decided to return to the profession because of the opportunity at LCE. Ms. De Angelo holds an M.A. Degree in Educational
Administration from California State University, Los Angeles.
Send
her a welcome message here:

STAR Testing Tips
for Parents:
-
Know the STAR testing dates and the subject(s) to be covered each day.
-
Ensure that your child is in school everyday unless he/she is ill. (Depending on
the grade level, make-up dates are May 19-May 23)
-
Ensure that your child arrives to school on time.
-
Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and eats a good breakfast each morning.
-
Anticipate any morning habits/routines that may cause your child stress in getting
ready for school. Try to alleviate as many of those stressors as possible.
-
Try to relieve test anxiety by encouraging your child to do his/her very best!

Teacher Award Opportunity
The La Caņada Flintridge
Educational Foundation is sponsoring a new program to annually recognize an outstanding La Caņada Unified School District
teacher. Parents, students and teachers are invited to nominate deserving candidates
by May 23, 2008.
Nomination forms are available
here or from the principal’s secretary at each school.
In order to nominate a
candidate, respondents just need to list some basic information and to write a brief rationale explaining the teacher’s
strengths and contributions.
Any full-time certificated
classroom teacher serving in grades kindergarten through 12 at any of the three elementary schools, at LCHS 7-8, at LCHS 9-12
or at Foothills School
is eligible.
The final selection will
be made by the district administrators. The award will consist of a check for
an amount yet to be determined by the Foundation.

Enrichment Forms Available
The LCE PTA provides an
"Enrichment Budget" each year, which goes above and beyond our operating budget. The PTA association may elect each
year to support educational programs and materials such as classroom supplies, major equipment, teacher aides, books, enrichment
programs, etc. All gifts must benefit the largest number of students possible and be approved by the PTA, Principal
and District.
PTA welcomes enrichment budget
suggestions from parents, staff and students. Please provide as much detail as possible in your suggestions including
approximate costs and vendor information. The more detail provided, the better.
Enrichment forms are now available in the LCE Office or you may download one below.
Forms are due by 3 p.m. on Friday, May 16th, 2008. Thank you in advance for your ideas!
